Parent Workshop:
Encouraging Literacy Development in Young Children

Children have a natural enthusiasm for stories. Many homeschooling parents want to help their children learn to read and write in ways that encourage and build on this innate interest.  This workshop, geared towards homeschooling parents of children ages 4-7, will give you ideas, strategies, and resources for helping your child learn to read and write while nurturing a love of books and language.  You’ll be introduced to a variety of ways to create and maintain excitement about reading and writing while helping your child develop reading strategies, letter-sound correspondence, and other language and literacy skills.  Rather than advocating for a particular program or single approach, the goal is to give you a range of ideas so that you can choose those that fit your homeschooling approach and your child's learning style.  You'll walk away with written information to refer to later, including a list of suggested resources, and with renewed confidence in your own ability to guide your child’s literacy development.
